ACYOA Sports Weekend News!

Twenty-one youth from the St. Thomas ACYOA chapter attended Sports Weekend during Columbus Day weekend from October 7 to 9. Over 250 Armenian youth from the northeast gathered at this event, hosted by St. Leon’s in Fairlawn, NJ, to enjoy sports and social activities.

2017 Chess Instruction Saturdays

Because learning never stops at the classroom, St. Thomas Armenian Church is proud to continue a tradition of almost 20 years of chess instruction to our Armenian children! We provide a wonderful opportunity to students, aged eight and up, to learn a national sport of Armenia. We are happy to announce the return of Chess Instructor Ohannes Baltaian to St. Thomas, and invite new and returning students to the free introductory session on Saturday, September 23. All Armenian children from the Tri-state area can participate in the Chess Club at St. Thomas. Beginner and Intermediate Chess classes are taught weekly, on Saturdays, at 1:30pm. All interested parents should complete the attached registration form to Ani Capan.

Matthew Bourghol Places in Fencing Tournament

Matthew Bourghol is an altar server, Tbir, at St. Thomas Armenian Church. This past Sunday, he participated in a regional fencing tournament, sponsored by Thrust Fencing Academy, and achieved third place! This tournament was open to all members of the US Fencing Association. Fr. Papken was present at the tournament and was eagerly watching and cheering for him. Let’s all congratulate Matthew on his recent sports achievement. Way to go!

2016 Chess Tournament

The annual Chess Tournament was held at St. Thomas Church this past Saturday, March 26th, and it was a great success! With thanks to our instructor, Sarkis Agopcan, his students participated with the spirit of enthusiasm and competition. Everyone received a trophy of participation as a memory of the great day they had, thinking and strategizing among the camaraderie of good friends. All Armenian children from the Tri-state area can participate in the Chess Club at St. Thomas.
