This past Sunday, March 13,  marked the end of the ACSA (Armenian Church’s Sports Association) Basketball season in a big way.  The St. Thomas Junior Boys team made it to the finals and had a well-deserved win at the championship game played at Christ the King Regional High School, Middle Village, NY.  It is the St. Thomas Junior Boys Division fourth win in the last eight seasons!

basketball_2_use (Large)The team, coached by Douglas and Andrew Martaian, displayed “tremendous determination and hustle” in an “exciting contest” against the formidable rival team from St. Leon.  It was an intense match, with the score differential being tight through the end of the game.  This kept the fans at the edge of their seats and the players on their toes!  Both teams should be commended for having played a great game and ending the basketball season on a high note.  The St. Thomas team won with a score of 38 vs. 34.

This win would not have been possible without a few indispensable players among a team of great players!basketball_10 (Large)  Aren Arslanyan was awarded with the MVP (Most Valuable Player) plaque. Alec Kalfaian and John Ozdemir received plaques for the All Tournament Team, for having been the best players within the playoffs.
